The Nasher Museum presented Matthew Gale, curator (modern art) and head of displays at Tate Modern in London, who delivered the Annual Semans Lecture on Joan Miró. An art historian, Gale studied at Edinburgh University and College of Art and has a Ph.D. from the Courtauld Institute.

The Annual Semans Lecture was established in 1996 in honor of the late Dr. James H. Semans and Mary D.B.T. Semans. Past speakers include scholar Henry Petroski, architect Rafael Viñoly, artists Art Spiegelman and Fred Wilson, and museum directors Thelma Golden and Thomas Krens.
