David McConnell was born in Los Angeles in 1975 and currently lives and works in Raleigh and Asheville, North Carolina. McConnell is a musician, most notable for his involvement as collaborator, producer, and engineer for Elliott Smith's final album, From a Basement on the Hill. He once filled the role as bassist, keyboardist arranger, and producer in the band Goldenboy.
McConnell is also a self-taught visual artist whose focus is painting and sound installation. His solo exhibitions include David McConnell 2009, Flanders Gallery, Raleigh, N.C. (2009); Polysymphonic Sun, ABBA Fine Art, Miami (2007); Exhibition One, Bickett Gallery at Hudson, Raleigh, N.C. (2006); and New Video Installation, Opolis, Norman, Okla. (2003).
Group exhibitions include participation in Fusion, ABBA Fine Art, Miami (2007); and Generation Engage, Ralph Lauren, Washington, D.C. (2005). McConnell has also shown at the Fish Market Gallery, Raleigh, N.C. (2005); Tierra Del Sol, Claremont, Calif. (1995); and Haven Valley, Pomona, Calif. (1995).
