Kevin Ei-ichi deForest was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in 1962 and is currently a professor at Brandon University in Manitoba. He earned both his B.E.S. (1983) and B.F.A. (1986) at the University of Manitoba, and his M.F.A. from Concordia University in Montreal in 1994. DeForest was a Monbusho scholar at Seika University in Kyoto (1997 - 1998).
