Malick Sidibé was born in Soloba, Mali, in 1936. He currently lives and works in Bamako, Mali. He studied at the École des Artisans Soudanais (Institut National des Arts) in Bamako. He was the 2008 recipient of the ICP Infinity Award, the 2007 Venice Biennale Golden Lion, and the 2003 Hasselblad Award.
