Jasper Johns was born in Augusta, Georgia, in 1930, raised in South Carolina, and currently lives and works in Connecticut and Saint Martin. Among his awards are the Prize for Painting at the Venice Biennale in 1988, the Grand Prize at the Bienal de São Paolo in 1967, and the Carnegie Prize at the Pittsburgh Biennial in 1959.
